Misc. Comic Covers and Logos pt5; DMZ

DMZ. One of the best, most inventive and unique series’ Vertigo has launched in the past five years. I won’t get in to the story since that’s not my concern; the art and layouts are. The logo itself is nice. Prominent, informative, and enough little touches to set it apart from a logo that just used three capital letters on a sans-serif font at the Black setting.

The covers in general are great. Use of typography, recurring icons, abstract images relating to the story, etc gives the covers of DMZ a very cool, unique feel. Just look at these examples;

I love the use of the small icons/images on this one.

The text with the skyline, the images in the shadow, and the stark color all make this one look astounding.

The use of a detailed "realistic" image juxtaposed with a simple lineart/black icon like image such as the gun is something these covers sometimes do, which rocks.

This looks pretty nice all around.

I LOVE this. It's busy, energetic, good use of icons and drawings, as well as color.

And this isn’t just window dressing. The artwork in the book meshes well with this approach to the cover design and utilizes unique design, layout, and use of photos and the like itself to achieve a very distinct feel that coalesces with the story itself, creating a pretty solid immersive experience. This is a comic where almost everything; covers, art, writing, etc. falls in to place seamlessly.
